Analytics - Survivalist caps himself and family

This story requires some thought. 

I am wondering what happens in these situations.  I am not taking a side as I just learned about it.

My questions

1- Why kill your family like this?

2- Why build an elaborate "heavily fortified " bunker only to blow your own head off?

3- The reports indicate that the house should have looked much more burned out than the photos indicate.

4- Why did LEO blow the bunker after gassing it out? If he was not a suspect, was any other negotiation attempted?

5- How many armored vehicles were deployed and from where?

6- Why were LEO treated for operational elements during a 7 hour operation?  The stories indicate that people were only in the field for a short time.

Looks like the guy was a threat. The family was probably cleaned up so there would be no follow up questions. All that is left is questions that will be defered to the Dept.of Homeland Security.

I wasn't trying to lead the discussion that way though, there does seem to be more to this.

Anyone know who has jurisdiction on the investigation?  If Homeland took over then that tends to open a new can of worms.
